Step 1 of KCET Counselling Procedure

The students who qualify for KCET can apply for counselling. All students who seek admission in colleges must go through the KCET counselling process.

Verification of Documents

The first step in KCET counselling is the verification of student documents. The documents will include the following:

  • 10th std mark sheet
  • 12th std or 2nd PUC mark sheet
  • 2 passport size photographs
  • Study Certificate authenticated by BEO/DDPI
  • KCET Application Form printout
  • KCET Admit Card printout
  • Proof of application fee payment

  • Caste certificate (if applicable)
  • Disability certificate (if applicable)
  • Aadhar Card
  • Minority Certificate (for NCC or Sports)

These documents must be taken in original to the verification center. On scrutiny of the documents, the KEA will generate a unique ID and password for the student.

It must be noted that the process of verification of documents must mandatorily be done in person at the designated verification centers. Other processes like seat preference and seat allotment may be done online.

Step 2 of KCET Counselling Procedure

On successful verification of documents and procurement of unique ID and password, students are required to log in to the official website of the Karnataka Examination Authority for KCET counselling.

On this portal, students will be required to enter their choice of college and course and submit the same. Students must make certain that they are sure of their choices before submitting the same through the portal.

Students can opt for multiple choices of colleges and courses based on the ranking in KCET.

Step 3 of KCET Counselling Process

Once the candidates lock and submit the choice of colleges and courses, the Karnataka Examination Authority will display a provisional mock seat allotment to the candidates.

This mock seat allotment allows students to gauge their chances of admission into the college and the course of their choice.

Students are required to change their college and course choices after the mock seat allotment. The final choices of the student must be entered before the prescribed final date, after which changes can not be made by the student.

How Many Rounds of Counselling Are There in KCET?

With regard to the question- how many rounds of counselling are there in KCET? There are mainly two rounds of KCET counselling with an additional third-round in case of seat vacancies.

Seats are allotted by the Karnataka Examination Authority based on merit, ranking, reservations and quotas as per the Government guidelines prevalent at the time.

After seats are allotted, students are given the choice to accept the seat or not.

Students who accept the seat can pay the college fees and take up the course.

However, if the student is not satisfied with the seat allotment and wishes to wait for the second round of KCET counselling, this may be done.

There is a provision to keep the first allotted seat, in case the student is not satisfied with the allotted seat in the second round of KCET counselling.

Students who are totally unsatisfied with the seat allotment and wish to withdraw from the KCET counselling process may do so.

In such cases, the student will not be considered for further stages in the KCET counselling process.

On completion of the third round of KCET counselling for seat allotment, satisfied students may take a printout of the provisional seat allotment certificate.

This provisional certificate is required to be shown at the designated college for admission.

Step 4 of KCET Counselling Process

On obtaining the provisional seat allotment certificate, students must take a printout of the same and submit it to the designated college as proof of seat allotment through KCET.

On receipt of this document and other necessary documents, the college will admit the students to the college after payment of fees. Fees are required to be paid in order to block the seat in the college.
